Within a British music scene mired in staid complacency, content to compartmentalise and constantly recycle sounds, Asian Dub Foundation strive to make a difference. Since forming in 1993, ADF, have honed their radical blend of hardcore (punishing break beats, rap polemic, and punk rock) filtered through traditional Indian classical and spiritual music. By marrying their dynamic sound clash and revolutionary dub poetry with a tireless commitment to grassroots activism., ADF sidestep any criticism of tapping in to the rock tradition of 'radical chic', placing themselves more in line with the legacy handed down by the likes of Linton Kwesi Johnson and Africa Bambaata. With hooks and choruses that sound like revolutionary slogans, their aim is to simultaneously agitate, educate and organise.
