The group brings together 12 twenty-somethings who have individually pursued such diverse careers as acting, photography, gemology, psychology, computer programming, rock and roll and classical music. They came together through a serendipitous combination of mutual friendships, an inclination for something a bit out of the ordinary, and a discovered passion for music several centuries old.
It all began in the spring of 1996, in the dingy caverns of Berlin's cabaret circuit, where Katharine Blake- a classically trained musician and also the enchanting lead singer of the strange band Miranda Sex Garden - met Dorothy Carter, dotty yet deadly committed musician devoted to mediaeval music. Inspired, Katharine returned to London determined to convince her exotic and talented mates that what they really wanted to do with their lives was sing very old songs from an age of innocence. little persuasion was needed. Self-sufficient, capable and loving a bit of the unusual, they all saw the fantastic possibilities of combining their mod sensibilities with the beauty and simplicity of mediaeval music. And so the Mediaeval Baebes were formed...
