Rarely does an artist come along who is equally at home recording and performing an album like 'Madman of God' as being on a stage with the likes of Praxis, Buckethead and Bill Laswell, walking the very cutting edge of techno hip hop -- but SUSSAN DEYHIM is such an artist.
Her ongoing musical odyssey reflects her broad diversity of interests and tastes as well as her cosmopolitan background from a progressive aristocratic family of Teheran. She was exposed very early to every coceivable kind of music: "Either it was pure roots, or completely conceptual in a very pure way", she describes her experiences herself. Today, Deyhim has become a presence on the international scene as a multi-dimensional vocalist and performance artist combining music, movement, and media. Her appearances have ranged from productions like John Claude van Italie's Tibetan Book of the Dead at La Mama in New York to playing Euridice at La Scala in Milan, from performing with Bill Laswell and Jah Wobble to recording and performing as a soloist with Bobby McFerrin's vocal ensemble.
Billboard described her as "an overpowering presence". Quite so.
